last night was board night for choralis, and the first time the board has had a chance to debrief in person the last concert of the season - which also happens to be the concert for which i provided visuals. evidently there were some high-profile folks in the small-but-mighty audience...some of gretchen kuhrmann's conductor and musician colleagues, as well as some church folks. apparently the response was consistently and overwhelmingly positive. words like 'blown away' were tossed about...so perhaps i'll get additional gigs from it.
in the meantime, i've been put to work, primarily in the publications/pr/marketing/communications arena. and also in the fundraising/donor raising arena.
stay tuned for fun stories about all THAT!

the surreal life
so i was recently commissioned to put together visuals for a memorial service and the reception following, and lo and behold, who delivers one of the eulogies but newt gingrich (of all people). the weirdest part was that it wasn't even slightly weird. it all seemed perfectly normal to have him sitting directly opposite of me (it is a church in the round), and to have him walk right in front of me to get to the lectern. perhaps that's because the service was held in an episcopal church RIGHT BEHIND the library of congress, within spittin' distance of the capitol. with an O.
besides the surreality of it all, the service - and the work putting the visuals together - was a blessing and a joy. a highlight of my summer. too bad it all went by so fast (even with a service nearing two hours...).

my kids!
somehow or other i've finally found a couple of seconds in between projects, so let me catch you up before it becomes august.
hard on the heels of 'die schoepfung' i was busy getting ready for my photography camp at my church for rising 5th-7th graders. it's the second year i've held it and this year the kids were even better than last. we managed to squeeze in some craft time, so the kids had a tactile way to explore line, shape, value, color and texture before trying to capture them photographically. although the camp ran from 9-12 each day, i worked a whole heck of a lot more hours than that, which meant i was falling asleep during the evening news every night.
i am not as young as i used to be. sigh.
here are my kids!

and here's me!

i've been assigned
...a new liaison in a new (i believe) liaison group in cpm, the committee that takes care of ordination candidates. my new liaison is actually a friend of mine from wesley, who is in a bit of an untraditional ministry herself. we have yet to make contact as she's out of town, so perhaps we'll get together in the fall.
we'll see what God has up his sleeve!! :]
