just like monopoly

when i was a kid, my sisters and i had two epic monopoly battles...we would set up the board and go at it...hours upon hours for days at an end. after i beat both my sisters the first time, my older sister challenged me to a rematch. again, hours upon hours for days upon days. i won the second time as well. thus ended our epic monopoly battles. to this day, 30 years later, i can't bring myself to play that game again. at any rate, the point of all this is that i tend to live my life the way i played monopoly...after spending nearly every cent i had on investments, i waited and waited until finally the money started rolling in. now, i don't mean to convey that i routinely spend nearly everything i have and then have money pouring in. rather, i'm not afraid to invest whatever i have in what i believe in, if i feel it is what God has called me to do.

now, this story does have a corollary to my life. right this very second, i'm kicking around upgrading to a mac as my primary computer. after years and years - decades, really - as a pc girl, i am about to become a mac girl. also, i'm exploring hiring a vienna-based web firm to upgrade my web site. it's been two years since i created my site using whatever html i had leftover in my head from my IT days. there are a lot of things i'd like to do with my site which i can't do myself, and since it looks like my business is going to hang around for awhile, i think it's time to get someone to make it a reality.

so how is all this related to monopoly? even though the money isn't necessarily pouring in, it is coming in at a better rate than last year. and even though everyone i work for is poor (think non-profit arts and ministry), i believe in what i'm doing and believe in who i'm serving. and i believe that if i wisely spend the money which God has given me (read: plow it right back into the business), then everything will work out. you gotta spend money to make it. and i'm not afraid to try. and wait to see the outcome.

when the new, and improved web site launches, i'll let you know.

next up

okay, i think my head is finally above water after juggling all the work for wesley and pulling together a stash of images to use on vpc's web site (hopefully to be launched in november). evidently they want me to be the 'look and feel' of vpc since apparently i already am. or so they say.

when that happens, i'll post the church's web site so you can check it out for yourselves.

anyway, next up is pricing out the big shindig known as 'glorious sounds of Christmas'...this year slated for 12.21...the closest to Christmas we've ever had it. there is a possibility i'll be asked to produce visuals for Christmas eve services at vpc as well...the fourth or fifth year in a row i've done this. or however much it's been. time sure is zipping by. at any rate, i also have a possible gig pending producing Christmas eve visuals for a church in severna park, maryland. same church i worked with a couple of years ago. nice to have some repeat business.

so back to glorious sounds. first up is to hustle up a price quote and then i'll start working my way through the music to begin the process of building. before i launch into creating stuff, i volunteered to put together a flier and poster so we can start getting the word out. this year we're back to two concerts (4 and 7 pm), so we need to start drumming up interest.

so back to the races....

weirder by the second

okay, so my life is getting weirder and weirder by the nanosecond. last saturday night i was asked to help out at a fundraiser for cch (community coalition for haiti...cchaiti.org) hosted by robert and luciana duvall. yes, folks, the actor. the guy who played boo in 'to kill a mockingbird.' who wrote and directed and produced and starred in 'the apostle.' and has starred in zillions of movies.

pictures posted below.

(oh, it was a costume party, which explains the huge glasses. at least i hope it does.)
